Refocus & Recenter: Make Space for What Matters

Last week, we explored calming your evening energy and creating rhythms that support better rest and smoother transitions. This week, we’re shifting toward refocusing. Clearing clutter (energetic and otherwise) so you can move forward with intention. Life gets full with school events, work deadlines, to-dos on every surface and it’s easy to lose connection with what actually matters to you. This week, let’s create some breathing room…
Energy Boundaries & the Full Calendar
A packed schedule doesn’t always reflect a full life. Of course we all have life experiences and home lives that affect us. We are born into circumstances that have their impact: our country, the state we live in, our family, along with all of the experiences and choices we make along the way. We might not be able to choose some things under these circumstances, but we are co-creators in our life.
Energetic boundary clutter can look like:
- Saying yes when you meant no
- Feeling scattered and easily overwhelmed
- Constantly shifting priorities for others
- Trouble starting or finishing tasks
Clearing the calendar isn’t just a time-management tactic. It’s energetic hygiene.
💡 Reality Check: Looking at what to let go of can feel overwhelming when everything feels important or urgent. You don't need to overhaul your entire life this week. Maybe it's just saying no to one small thing, or moving one commitment to next month. Clearing space happens one small choice at a time and can have a snowball effect.
Family Conversations About Letting Go
When you start clearing your calendar, it affects everyone. Some family members might worry they're losing something important. Here are some age-appropriate discussions suggestions:
- With Young Kids (5-10): "We're going to try doing fewer activities so we have more time to play and rest at home. What sounds fun about having more free time?"
- With Tweens/Teens (11+): "I'm feeling like we're all pretty overwhelmed with our schedule. What activities feel most important to you? What could we maybe take a break from?"
- With Partners: "I'm realizing I've been saying yes to too many things, and it's affecting my energy for our family. Can we look at our calendar together and see what we might adjust?"
Managing Push-back:
- Acknowledge their concerns: "I understand you're worried about missing out..."
- Reframe as addition, not subtraction: "We're making room for more family time and rest"
- Offer trial periods: "Let's try this for a month and see how everyone feels"
- Be willing to compromise on what matters most to them
Family Boundary Setting:
- Model saying no gracefully: "That sounds wonderful, but it doesn't work for our family right now." That said, “No” is a full sentence. If someone continues to push boundaries and doesn’t hear your graceful “no”, show your kids that they can be firm.
- Teach kids it's okay to decline invitations when they need rest.
Mabon & the Art of Letting Go

Mabon (Autumn Equinox, Sep 22) marks a turning point — when day and night stand in balance. This natural pause is an invitation to reflect:
- What’s no longer serving you?
- Where are you giving energy that drains you?
- What would feel more aligned moving forward?
Let the equinox be a gentle energetic checkpoint. You don’t have to figure it all out — just begin noticing what wants to stay and what wants to go.
Mini Practice: Clear the Clutter (Field Sweep)
Purpose: Clear excess energy and release buildup from the day.
When to do it: At the end of a long day, before a transition (like school pickup or bed), or whenever you feel "full" or scattered.
How to do it:
- Stand or sit comfortably. Close your eyes.
- Imagine you’re holding a small broom or feather fan.
- Gently “sweep” your energy field from head to feet — front, sides, and back. You can use your hands for this.
- On each sweep, breathe out and imagine releasing stress, noise, and expectations.
- End with one hand over your heart and one on your belly. Inhale calm. Exhale clarity.
