How To

Located on the right side of the body, just inside the hipbone, the Ileocecal valve regulates the flow of fluids and waste. The Houston "valve" (not a true valve), located on the left side of the body just inside the hipbone, helps regulate the actions between the descending colon of the large intestine and the rectum. Together, they play an important role in making sure the body removes nutrients from food and releases unnecessary materials for evacuation.

According to the Eden Method, when the energies of these "valves" are not balanced, it can result in symptoms that mimic serious illnesses like Crohn's disease and irritable bowel syndrome!

The Wayne Cook Posture is excellent at helping you focus your mind, untangle inner chaos, unscramble energies, articulate your thoughts better, and get better sleep.

You can hold this pose almost anywhere - hold it while you are laying in bed, sitting watching TV, or even in the waiting room at the dentist's office! If you decide to stand while holding this pose, make sure that you can do so comfortably and safely.

  1. While sitting (or standing), cross your ankles.

  2. Extend both arms out in front of you with your palms facing outward (thumbs pointing down, back of hands touching).

  3. Now, keeping your thumbs pointing down, cross your wrists so that your palms are touching and you can clasp your fingers together.

  4. Bring your hands under and up to rest your hands on your chest, beneath your chin.

  5. Breathe in slowly through your nose, letting the breath lift your chest. Exhale slowly through your mouth, allowing your body to relax. Repeat at least 3 times or as long as this feels comfortable.

  6. Uncross your legs and "steeple" your fingertips. Keeping your fingers steepled, rest your thumbs just above the bridge of your nose between your eyebrows. Hold this position as you breathe deeply four or five times.

  7. On the last exhalation, curl your fingers at the center of your forehead, push in, and pull slowly to your temples, stretching the skin on your forehead. Slowly bring your hands down in front of you and feel calm envelope you.

This exercise is similar to one used in Psych K called the Whole Brain Posture.
